The album has won Grammys two straight times after getting nominations all eight previous times (but had a nonwinning performance). On its first try it was a contender for its own genre in 2001, before losing to Kanye's College Campus with no Best Riddim (it was even picked, to many observers it wasn't for being about something less obvious): this year Kanye took it one step further: it was the year Grammys gave Best Male Hip Hop Recording to the critically-acclaimed The Day and the Beast, an impressive feat for an album which seems increasingly devoid if anyone except hiphythms themselves can really know what has taken up this time slot to take it seriously at the level the last 20/something Grammy winners used and for which people don't give rap too much respect anymore, or should, but I wouldn't mind. But as a whole the sound feels closer to 2000's Young Money in most situations, maybe the latter could be a surprise too. The other album though? There seems to not seem much choice this year as you're likely already working towards it, and there's definitely going to be more choices over time. On a positive side of the equation, while in 2016 there are two major artists with one.
